Training Rotations

Rotation A

There are 18 places each August on our main three-year training rotation during which our trainees spend a total of 18 months in general practice and 18 months in secondary care. The hospital posts are four months each and are based in the West Herts Hospitals Acute Trust and the Hertfordshire Partnership Trust.

The ST1 year will include:

Four months of full time general practice

Four months in a core medical, geriatric or A&E post

Four months based in general practice but 50% in secondary care eg GUM/dermatology, rheumatology, palliative care or elderly care/rehabilitation

ST2 year 

Four month posts in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics and Psychiatry

ST 3 year

Twelve months of full time general practice

 

Rotation B

Please note that we are no recruiting to this Rotation B in August 2011 due to a shortage of suitable hospital posts

This still under construction in co-operation the East of England Deanery. There are four vacancies each August. The GP placements will be in West Hertfordshire but the hospital posts are based at several hospital trusts including the Lister (Stevenage), QEII (Welwyn) and West Herts. The secondary care posts will be of six months duration. The following schedule is correct for the GP trainees who joined the training scheme in 2009-2010. The ST2 rotation for those who join the training scheme in August 2010 is still being arranged by the Deanery. 

ST1 year - Six months in General Practice and six months in Acute Medicine

ST2 year - Six month posts in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Paediatrics

ST3 year - Twelve months in General Practice.
